Hooghly Rural Police seized 550 kilograms of illegal firecrackers and raw materials used for their production during a raid in Dhaniakhali’s Mirjanagar area. The raid was conducted following reports of unauthorized firecracker manufacturing ahead of Holi. Two individuals were arrested, and authorities recovered high-decibel explosives stored in two houses. The operation was led by DSP D&T Priyabrata Bakshi, CI Dhaniakhali Ram Gopal Pal, and OC Dhaniakhali Kaushik Dutta.
According to DSP Priyabrata Bakshi, the raid was based on specific inputs about illegal firecracker production in residential areas. “We received information about unauthorized firecracker manufacturing in some houses and conducted a raid with police forces,” he said. The seized items included various types of firecrackers, along with chemicals used in their production. A case has been registered under the Explosives Act, and legal action is being initiated against the accused.
Authorities have increased monitoring in the region to prevent further illegal firecracker production, especially with Holi approaching. The police have urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to firecracker manufacturing. Safety concerns remain a priority as law enforcement continues to track unregulated units operating in the area.
